PERFORMANCE | The Good and the Bad

Performance for the Levana Keera Monitor seems to be a little inconsistent. While many of the features work great like the audio, battery life, and ability to take pictures and videos of baby, there are some fickle features that are pretty significant to the functionality of this monitor.

100% digital connection…ensures a private and secure connection without the possibility of unwanted strangers joining in on your monitoring system.

Battery life is great with the Levana Keera Monitor, ranging between 6-24 hours depending on if power save mode is on or off. With the whole system on and working, battery life sits at around 6 hours but with power save mode (PEEP mode) on Levana claims that battery life can last up to 24 hours. A handy feature included is both a visual and audible warning if the battery is getting low.

Another great aspect of this monitor for parents that value privacy is the 100% digital connection (sorry techies, no WiFi connection). This ensures a private and secure connection without the possibility of unwanted strangers joining in on your monitoring system.

Range

With a huge range of 750 feet, the Levana Keera Monitor can reach the length of over two football fields. However, a huge issue with this monitor seems to be connection issues and poor range, despite the 750 feet claimed by Levana. There are a few disclaimers on the Levana website stating that “Optimum range is 150 feet when the signal is passing through walls or floors. Microwave ovens (when in use) may cause signal disruption at close range. Buildings with metal frames may also cause signal disruption.”

With a huge range of 750 feet, the Levana Keera Monitor can reach the length of over two football fields.

Another disclaimer included directly in the user manual says, “This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.” Some monitors are known to have issues with signal interference. This interference can be caused by other radio frequency devices (wireless devices) which include almost all electronics. The fact that Levana is providing disclaimers for this feature sets off a red flag that the signal from this monitor might be easily interfered with by other electronic devices.

Audio and Visual

With an optimal focal distance of 2-10 feet, the Levana Keera Monitor is able to focus on baby in an average-sized room. This camera includes smooth and silent pan, tilt, and zoom features that cover a wide range of area (300 degrees horizontally and 100 degrees vertically). The zooming feature is a great option to have as it helps prevent straining your eyes to see the fine details of what’s happening in baby’s room.

A great viewing feature of the Levana Keera Monitor is the invisible LED night vision…

A great viewing feature of the Levana Keera Monitor is the invisible LED night vision option with 12 feet of optimal night viewing distance. With some baby monitors, some light needs to be included with the camera in order for the night vision to work properly. That’s not the case with the Levana Keera; the invisible night vision allows for no additional light in baby’s room to keep them awake at night.

One issue that has been noted is that the invisible LED light bounces off anything in between the camera and the baby (like if the crib, camera base, or other furniture was nearest to the camera). This causes the LED light to create a bright and reflective glare that makes it hard to see anything else in the room. In order to fix this, the camera needs to be positioned with a direct view of baby, and some parents have noted that they need to put clothes, books, or toys under the camera to position it just right in order for it to work properly.

Another visual issue seems to include problems switching between day and night vision. The Levana Keera Monitor has a built-in automatic day/night vision switch that allows it to switch back and forth depending on the amount of light in the room. This can sometimes cause issues with adjusting to mid-lighting in baby’s room. There is no manual option for switching between night and day vision, a big downside to this feature.

Easy setup is a plus with the Levana Keera Monitor as it comes with a Quick Start Guide with every step clearly demonstrated by pictures…kids aren’t the only ones that love pictures! The quick start guide also comes with a picture key to help you figure out the function of each button on the parent monitor. As always with these little high-tech devices, it’s always good to play around with them a little bit to learn the ropes.

A few easy and great features included are light-up alerts for baby volume and battery levels. If you ever have the Levana Keera Monitor on silent, there is an option that allows you to see how much noise your little one is making on the parent monitor by showing different LED colors. A color key in the user manual tells you how much noise each color signifies. Another useful light-up alert is the low-battery light that also comes with the option to use an audio battery alert.

One great option with the Levana Keera Monitor is the ability to expand with more cameras in the future. This opportunity allows users to connect up to four different baby cameras that are all viewable on the parent monitor by switching between cameras. This could be a great feature if more kiddos are in your future, but also great for monitoring different parts of your house…kind of like a baby-style security system!

A unique and fun aspect of the Levana Keera Monitor is the ability to take pictures and record videos of baby while also storing them on the included SD card.

As well as many other useful little features (like a wall-mountable slot on the back of the monitor and a kickstand on the parent screen for easy viewing), a unique and fun aspect of the Levana Keera Monitor is the ability to take pictures and record videos of baby while also storing them on the included SD card. The included SD card makes it easy to transport your pictures and videos and download them onto your computer or easily get them printed at a photo printing center. A plus with the SD card is that you can even use it for other devices that accept micro SD cards (some cell phones and cameras). The user manual that’s included is an awesome resource that includes a lot of information about this product and its features in addition to a troubleshooting section, making it a winner for easy use.
